Blending Experiments With Crappy Wool

So last night was "let's see if the blending board can redeem this scary hair-wad feeling stuff and some stuff that might actually be more meant for felting". The short answer? Yes!

The long answer? Still yes, but it's probably going to make a mighty rough yarn, despite drafting fairly well.

First step was getting it all gathered up. 2.5 oz of fiber there. You can see how questionable both fibers are! (Honestly the brown grew on me as I worked it, but it DOES still feel unsettlingly like something off my own head.)

The fiber separated into what I thought was more reasonable quantities for each set.

You can see what I was doing with the layering as I went. I do think I went too heavy on it, as you'll see below. Still, honestly the effect is pretty nice.

I fluffed the bottom up so I could start drafting the rolags off it - this was the point I realized it might be too THICK. At least with this rough stuff. Oh nooooo.

And yeah, getting this off was a struggle. No smooth pulling like I see in vids.

It does look good though!

And the color pattern is nicer than expected, though I knew it wouldn't be awful.

So each of these rolags is approximately half an ounce, which, honestly, probably a little too much. But this was my first time playing with the board, so this is all learning experience for me.

AHH THEY LOOK LIKE CINNAMON ROLLS.

So these are the first batch of rolags that will be going out with the spindles as part of SCA stuff. I might mark these as non-beginner ones, but I did do a little drafting before I committed, and they SEEMED to be doing okay... It's not like I'm all that good at spinning. (YET. I WILL GIT GUD, JUST WATCH.)

Anyway if someone ends up hating the fiber, all they have to do if felt it and they have a dryer ball! And admittedly small one but SHHHHH NO NEGATIVITY HERE.

In conclusion: Not a bad first attempt, and I love my Lo-LO Bar because my hands were dry as a desert after working with this stuff.
